BIOGRAPHY
Gracie Otto is an accomplished Australian filmmaker and member of the Otto acting family. Her film OTTO BY OTTO, a long-term personal documentary based on her relationship with her 84-year-old father, legendary actor Barry Otto now living with Alzheimers, won Best Film at the recent AACTA Awards.
Gracie’s previous documentary features both enjoyed international acclaim, distribution and festival selection. THE LAST IMPRESARIO about British producer Michael White premiered at London Film Festival featuring interviews with celebrities including Kate Moss, Yoko Ono, Anna Wintour and Naomi Watts. UNDER THE VOLCANO premiered at SXSW and released by Universal Pictures, celebrates legendary Beatles producer Sir George Martin and Air Studios, the recording studio he built in the Caribbean, where the world’s biggest artists including Sting, Dire Straits, Paul McCartney, Elton John, Stevie Wonder and the Rolling Stones created the music and myths that defined the 1980s.
SERIOUSLY RED, her feature debut, a musical dramedy based on a Dolly Parton impersonator, starring Krew Boylan, Rose Byrne, Bobby Cannavale and Celeste Barber, enjoyed rave reviews at SXSW.
Her recent television credits prove her high demand, directing award winning series including for Netflix the Emmy International Award-winning HEARTBREAK HIGH; Disney+ (THE CLEARING, THE ARTFUL DODGER); Amazon Prime (DEADLOCH); CW Network (GOOD COP BAD COP) starring among others Teresa Palmer, Guy Pearce, Miranda Otto, David Thewlis, Maia Mitchell and Leighton Meester.
In between jobs she returns to directing advertising and, her first love, fashion films with an auteur driven brand of style and substance, including recently a beautiful series for Zimmermann of big set piece shows and short form content. Her fashion films are always visually and narratively inspiring and feature the most famous names in modelling including Gigi Hadid, Selena Gomez, Elle Fanning, Amanda Seyfried, Elizabeth Debicki, Emilia Clark, Miranda Kerr, Abbey Lee, Barbara Palvin and recently Hannah Dodd in St Barths.
